Scotch Hills Mini-Golf Receives Top Honors For
Excellence in Design from State

See caption below

At a recent Council Meeting, Bruce Kauffman, President of the New Jersey Parks & Recreation Association and Dee McKay, Past President of the NJRPA, presented Ray Poerio, Director of Parks and Recreation, the Township Recreation Commission, and the Township Council the “Excellence in Design” award for the newly-constructed Mini-Golf Course. The course which is located at the intersection of Jerusalem Road and Plainfield Ave. is the newest addition to Scotch Hills and adjacent to the existing 9 whole golf course.

During the presentation, Ms. McKay described a little about NJRPA. The Association is an organization dedicated to promoting the Parks and Recreation industry, the professional development of its members, as well as advocating public policy and stewardship related to parks, recreation, resource management, and future services. The purpose of the New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association awards program is to honor and identify dedicated employees and volunteers of the Parks and Recreation departments throughout the State. The program also recognizes New Jersey’s outstanding recreation programs as well as parks & facilities design.

Mr. Kauffman took the opportunity to explain what the award entails. The NJRPA annually presents awards for various criteria throughout the State of New Jersey. One of the awards presented is the excellence in design award. It is given for excellence for completion of a recreation parks facility for public use. The facility must have been completed within the previous 3 years (from 2005 to 2007) and submitted within one of four population categories. The population category for Scotch Plains is 20,000 to 40,000 residents. The award-winning facility should show evidence of, but not limited to, aesthetic quality, uniqueness of design, usability and versatility as well as meeting New Jersey barrier-free recreation sub-code and applicable U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines. It was Mr. Kauffman’s privilege to represent the New Jersey Recreation Park Association as its incoming President. The NJRPA’s Excellence in Design Award for the Scotch Hills Country Club Miniature Golf Course was officially dated March 4, 2008. This is an award that the entire Township can be most proud of for a facility that benefits countless residents and players.
